I wouldnt mind paying extra for apple hardware to simplify the graphics card install. Im hoping it works from power-on to show bios info and chameleon boot screen; and not just when snow leopard starts up and loads the efi info. Fully functional all three ports under Win 7 Under OSx86 (SL 10.5.6), used Kabyls boot loader and managed to enable only one port at a time: MDP with ATI FB Alouatta or DVI port functional using Uakari. Cannot get two monitors to work together under OSx86 (Samsung SyncMaster P2370 and Apple Cinema LED 27) while they work perfectly under Windows 7. Compatible: Radeon 5870 Mac OSX DriverCinebench OpenGL test under Win7 is showing 59 fps while under OSx86 only 30 fps I still dont understand what causes this discrepancy: a) Better Win7 than Mac OSX driver. In both OS-es it runs two monitors (Apple LED 27 - MDP and Samsung 23 DVI). The card itself is not performing as expected (Cinebench OpenGL score only 32.67 fps) but that is the same behavior as in genuine Mac Pro. Windows performance is way better around 70 fps OpenGL Cinebench score Hopefully Apple and ATI will fix the driver problem soon as a lot of regular Mac Pro users are impacted too. Under Windows 7 it goes to over 70 fps() in the exactly same HW setup (described in my profile). The card is also very quiet and doesnt produce enormous heat as a number of nVidia cards I had before e.g. GeForce GTS 250, GTX 285, not to mention GTX 8800 that would require noise isolation and open window, meaning home window open in the middle of Canadian winter, when you turn on the computer. So everything is pointing toward Mac OSX OpenGL implementation and ATI Mac OSX driver implementation. If the difference in performance was about 5 nobody apart from OSx86 community would even notice. But performance difference of TWO HUNDRED TWENTY PERCENT is just such a HUGE BLOW into I am a Mac image that Apple is quite successfully building for years now. They (Apple - ATI) should better solve it soon before Microsoft comes with I am a Windows that outperforms and leaves Mac in dust on their own Apple HW. But see it this way: Apple always programmed their own Java and their own graphics drivers. If ATI and NVidia did real performance optimization it would be on par.
